LaVonda Eggen, 88, of Windom died March 11, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
Funeral services were Saturday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Tim Wrenn officiating.
Special music was provided by Dustin Stevens, pianist; and Mark Nass, vocalist.
Casket bearers were Brett Mattson, Amanda Mattson, Megan Mattson, Theresa Dean, Allison Wyffels and Jeremy Langerud.
Burial was at Tracy City Cemetery in Tracy.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
LaVonda "Vonnie" Rae Thompsen was born April 2, 1925, to Lewis Christian and Nettie June (Cowles) Thompsen in White, S.D. She was baptized in 1939 and later confirmed at Methodist Episcopal Church in White.
She received her education in White, graduating as valedictorian from White High School in 1943. She moved to Hendricks and studied nursing before beginning work as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Hendricks Hospital.
In 1946, LaVonda married Julian Orrin Eggen at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. They continued living in Hendricks before moving to Brookings, S.D., where LaVonda worked at the Brookings Hospital. After a move to Tracy, LaVonda worked at the Tracy Clinic.
In 1972, LaVonda and Julian moved to Windom where LaVonda was a stay-at-home mom.
After Julian's death in 1997, LaVonda continued living in Windom.
In 2007, she married Calvin Christensen at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Canby. They lived in Canby for the next six years.
In December, LaVonda and Cal became residents of Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. Calvin died on Jan. 1.
LaVonda was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church in Windom.
She enjoyed music and both sang and played trumpet. She also enjoyed attending concerts and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
In addition to her two husbands, Julian Eggen and Calvin Christensen, LaVonda was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Eggen Jr.; and a sister, Jeanette Raske.
Survivors include her three children: Larry Eggen of Storden; Renee (Lee) Wyffels of Troy, Mo.; and Deb (Doyle) Mattson of Windom; three step-children: Monica (Brad) Orren of Granite Falls; Paul Christensen of Kooskia, Idaho; and Todd (Lisa) Christensen of Canby; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
