Philip A. "Beetle" Christensen, 73, of Windom died Jan. 20, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. A memorial service will be held Saturday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Tim Wrenn officiating. Special music will be provided by Carol Vought, organist; and Brandy Pohlman, vocalist. Full military honors provided by American Legion Post 206 of Windom and the Minnesota Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors will take place at the church following the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom. Visitation will be held Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom. LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements. Philip Arthur Christensen was born Aug. 3, 1940, the third son of Arthur and Norma (Villa) Christensen. He was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Windom He attended Wilder School through eighth grade and Windom High School through 10th grade. He built pole barns and drove truck until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, where he earned his GED and was discharged in 1965. He continued to drive truck until purchasing his own truck. He was an owner-operator until 1986 when he drove a gas transport until he became disabled in 1995. In 1986, Philip married Karen (Johnson) Schultz in the American Lutheran Church Chapel where both were longtime members. Philip also was a lifetime member of the American Legion. In November, Phil was diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer and entered home hospice care. Philip enjoyed joking, laughing and giving everyone a bad time. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading, watching TV and spending time with his son and granddaughter. In earlier years he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his pets. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtiss and Arlan Christensen. Survivors include his wife, Karen Christensen of Windom; a son, Shane "Skeeter" Schultz of Windom; one granddaughter; a brother, Roger (Pat) Christensen of Farmington; and cats, "Sammy" and "Snoopy."
