Robert Evers, 82, of Springfield died Jan. 2, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Services were Monday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey with Pastor Brian Nehring officiating. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom. Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield handled the funeral arrangements. Robert Henry Evers was born Jan. 9, 1931, to John and Henrietta Evers. After his mother died at a young age, he was raised by another mother, Minnie Johnson Evers. Robert was baptized and later confirmed at Christ Church in Stately Township. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1967, Robert married Adonna Pohl Siefkes and she and her four children joined him on the farm. They also were blessed with two daughters of their own. Robert spent much of his life feeding cattle and farming before retiring and moving to Springfield in 2004. In 2007, Bob suffered a stroke and was confined to a wheelchair, but still enjoyed visiting neighbors. Bob was a member of New Hope Church in Comfrey. He also served on boards of St. John Lutheran Home, Comfrey School, Comfrey Hospital and the Cattlemen's Association. He also served as chairman of the Salem Church board and men's Valentine Supper. He enjoyed gardening, decorating the yard with flowers in the summer and stringing outdoor lights at Christmas. He also enjoyed trips to the grocery store and grilling for family get-togethers. Family was the most important part of his life. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Gniffke and Arlene Fox; and a nephew, Dave Fox. Survivors include his wife, Adonna Evers of Springfield; six children: Stacey (Chris) Vasecka of New Prague; Robin (Lowell) George of Roseville; Bradley Siefkes of Honolulu, Hawaii; Jeanine (Mike) Krzmarzick of Maple Grove; Kent (Virginia) Siefkes of Raleigh, N.C.; and Leanne (Mike) DeMotts of St. Paul; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
