Irene Elg, 84, of Windom died Oct. 1, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Services were Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur with Rev. Lowell Asplund officiating.
Burial was at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Darfur.
Irene Caroline Kruse was born Dec. 22, 1928, to George and Emma (Carsten) Kruse in Lamberton. She attended District 28 in Lamberton through eighth grade and attended Comfrey High School for two years before graduating from Windom High School in 1947.
Irene worked as a telephone operator until 1948 when she married Elwood Elg in Windom. She then worked for The Comfrey Times for 15 years as a typist and proofreader.
Irene was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur, the Darfur American Legion Auxiliary and later the Windom American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sewing, decorating for the seasons and holidays, NASCAR and putting puzzles together. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Irene was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys.
Survivors include her husband, Elwood Elg of Windom; children: Kevin (Dawn) Elg of Mankato; Myron (Connie) Elg of Dickens, Iowa; and Virginia (Darwin) Thiessen of Darfur; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother-in-law, Donald (Lorraine) Elg.
