Elaine R. Harder


Elaine R. Harder, 65, of Jackson died Sept. 24, 2013, at St. Anthony Health Care Center in Minneapolis.
A memorial service was Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor Lance Issacson officiating.
Special music was provided by Melynda Tracey, organist.
Honorary casket bearers were Beverly Schultz, Sharon Smith, Vicki Olsen, Joan Anderson, Marcia Johnson and Karen Rupp.
Ushers were Arnold Benson and Lowell Nasby.
Interment was at Rosehill Mennonite Cemetery in Westbrook.
Osterberg Funeral Home of Jackson handled the funeral arrangements.
Elaine Rupp Harder was born on Dec. 27, 1947, in Windom, the daughter of Russell and Eunice (Haas) Rupp. She graduated from Storden High School in 1966 and later graduated from Mankato State University in 1970.
She was united in marriage to Ronald Harder on July 17, 1970, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. After marriage, they moved to Jackson. She had been a home economics teacher in St. James and Lakefield, had a radio show for Windom Radio, columnist for Purple Circle magazine, office manager for Harder Livestock, a sales person for the Livewire Printing Company, an extension agent for the Cottonwood County, insurance agent for Harder and Associates Insurance Company, a five-term State Representative for District 22B in the Minnesota House and a freelance Public Relationship agent for the Farmer's Co-op for their 100 Anniversary.
Elaine moved to the Chandler Complex in 2011 in Minneapolis, where she passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 28 days.
Elaine was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook and later became a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she had been on the church council for many years.
She was also a member of the Jackson Kiwanis, the Sanford Hospital Board and Chamber of Commerce. She was a very active member of the Republican Party and had been a founding member of the Beta Clovia Sorority while going to school in Mankato.
She had also been a member of many boards in her lifetime.
Elaine is survived by her two children, Graydon (Lisa) Harder of Minneapolis and Nicole (Ivan) Luk of Fresno, Calif.; one grandson, Edward Harder; and two siblings, Murl (Mary) Rupp of Westbrook and Cecilie (Roger) Teerink of Worthington; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.
