Gary "Fred" Frederickson, 56, of Brooklyn Park, formerly of Windom, died Nov. 2, 2012, at his home in Brooklyn Park after a prolonged fight with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Gary George Frederickson was born Dec. 8, 1956, to Dennis and Mary (Zuelke) Frederickson in Windom. Gary's family lived in Kampala, Uganda from 1966 to 1973. During that time Gary attended school in Kampala, Uganda; Instanbul, Turkey; and Zaragosa, Spain.
The family moved back to Windom in 1973 and Gary graduated from Windom Area High School in 1974. He attended and graduated from Willmar Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in electronics.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the ballistic missile submarine Tecumseh.
After his honorable discharge in 1980, Gary returned to Windom and attended and graduated from Jackson Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in surveying.
In 1980, Gary married Christine Brandon. They moved to St. Paul and became the parents of one child, Cory, before they later divorced. Gary continued living in the Twin Cities area.
Gary enjoyed reading, writing, listening to public radio and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and his sister, Holly.
Survivors include his son, Cory (Anne) Frederickson of Anchorage, Alaska; his father, Dennis Frederickson of Windom; three brothers: Dean (Cathy) Frederickson of Mitchell, S.D.; Rick (Sue) Frederickson of Windom; and Jeff (Penny) Frederickson of Inver Grove Heights.
