Wild, wild Section 3 Nine-Man scene
Generally, when playoff time approaches in high school football, you see one or two teams start to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
In the 9-Man South West Sub-District, the team that has separated itself is Red Rock Central, which has gone 7-0 to start the season.

Cybersecurity Month: Ransomware
October is Cybersecurity Month. It is a good time to take inventory on your computer and phone security. This week I'll highlight the danger of cyber ransom.
Ransomware is the one thing that concerns me above all other threats. It is the most damaging and destructive tool cyber crooks can use. We saw another example of it a couple of weeks ago.

If you have the chance, tour your State Capitol!
The museum recently took its first history bus tour to visit the newly renovated Minnesota State Capitol. A full bus of 50 from Cottonwood County enjoyed a beautiful day touring the Capitol.

The former fire hall
Now that the new Emergency Services Facility is in operation, some folks have asked about the old fire hall's future.
In talking to city officials, it appears the long-range answer is not yet known. But there is definitely a short-term plan.

Hope on the tennis horizon?
There's news on the tennis courts construction front - and it remains to be seen whether it's good news.
It was announced this week (page 5) that the tennis courts are in the city's project plan for 2019.
Does that mean the city will begin considering the project in 2019? Or, does that mean construction will begin in 2019? Maybe it means both.

Lessons to be learned from heath hen extinction
No, by no means, is this column to be interpreted that our pheasants will become extinct like the heath hen 100 years ago. But, if we read and learn from the total loss of that bird from the earth, maybe we can learn some lessons. That will help us better manage our most prized gamebird, the Chinese ring-necked pheasant.
