Remember to back up
Recently, here at
iCitizen, we have had a number of computers brought to us with either bad hard drives or hard drives that are completely dead. If your hard drive is bad, but still functioning, consider yourself lucky because at any moment you could end up with a dead hard drive and lose all of your documents, pictures, business files, etc. Unless, of course, you back up your computer.

Penalty goes up for bus stop arm violations
Question: I read that the fine for going through a school bus stop arm will increase in Minnesota. Can you talk about the fine amount and school bus safety?

Get in the Christmas spirit
One of the perks of working for the newspaper and covering school-related news is the opportunity to take photos of the annual fall musical.
Because no one wants to hear the clicking of a camera shutter while they're watching the performance - and because my only photos, then, would come from the back of the theater - I always use one of the dress rehearsals to snap all the photos I want. It allows me to move where I want to get the shot I want from the angle I want.
The other bonus of shooting a dress rehearsal is that I get a sneak preview of the production.

Helping folks 'Feel Awesome'
I parked my car in front of Windom city hall the other day, a few paces away from two bright green signs that said: "Park here. Enjoy the walk."
I park there, or further away, whenever I must drive to city hall, or the Law Enforcement Center (I usually walk from my office). I figure adding a few extra steps is the least I can do for my health.

In general, a pretty quiet deer opener Saturday
Even before this year's shotgun slug season for deer in our area, I had some concerns about how good it might be despite predictions of a good hunt. There were several reasons for that.
Those deductions included plenty of unharvested corn, a weather front predicted to be moving through (close if not direct), flooded river bottoms for weeks had made them poor cover for deer to hide and last, but not least, a full moon phase.
I also thought some of the predictions of plentiful deer were maybe a bit too optimistic.

A little 'Rip' in some computers
Remember Rip Van Winkle, the character created by Washington Irving? Rip was a man who wandered into the woods, met some other fellows, drank a little Jenever and took a long nap. In fact, Rip didn't wake for over 20 years.
It seems some computers are having similar issues, fortunately not for 20 years! From what we can tell the Jenever these computers have been drinking is in the form of a Windows update.
