The 2013 fishing season is just around the corner, and anglers from around the state are getting ready. And that means we here at the Citizen are getting ready as well. Starting this fishing season, we're hoping to start a small weekly feature, highlighting the best of the outdoors from our region. Tentatively, I'm planning on calling it "Your Tall Tales." What I'm requesting is that people send me photos of their "catch of the day," whether it be big, small, a full stringer or just a single little fish. We are also hoping to continue this feature into hunting seasons, so you can send us photos of you with your deer, pheasants, ducks or whatever you may find. Photos should be high resolution and in focus. If you are using a cell phone to take the photo, please set the phone's camera to take the picture with the highest resolution possible. Resolution for most digital cameras should be high enough for a good photo reproduction. Along with the photo, send us a little bit of information on yourself: name, age, hometown and what you either caught, shot or trapped. If there's a story behind the catch of the day, the hunt or the trapping excursion, give us the details so we can include them as well. For anglers, include the lake your fish was caught on and what you used for bait. For hunters, you can give a generic description of where you hunted (for example, public land west of Windom). We're hoping to make this a weekly feature, so please don't be shy about sending in your pictures! And while we can't promise to run every photo, our intent is to run a photo and its corresponding "tall tale" every week. Submissions can be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The submissions for that week's paper should be received no later than 9 a.m., Monday morning. Thanks for your cooperation. I hope to run our first "Tall Tale" on May 14, right after the fishing opener. Good luck to all our anglers during the coming fishing season!
