If you're even just thinking about getting tickets to this weekend's Windom Area High School Fall Musical, Trying to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, DO IT! This show is hilarious. In fact, this show is non-stop laughs from beginning to end. I watched the show Friday afternoon, then took pictures of the production Monday night, and the show is downright fun. Arguably the best part of the show are the group numbers. There are several fantastic group selections during the show that are fun numbers. Unless you've seen the musical before, the numbers probably won't be familiar to you, but they will have you smiling and laughing. Show-goers also will enjoy the characters in the show and the comical way J. Pierrepont Finch (Eli Yackel-Juleen) climbs the corporate ladder. One of the really hilarious characters in the show is Heddy LaRue, a young, attractive aspiring secretary, who really has some of the great, funny lines in the show. Tickets for all four shows are still available in the WAMHS office. You can reserve seats by calling the office at 831-6910. Tickets are $7 per seat with limited seating available for shows Thursday and Friday nights. However, many good seats still remain for both the Saturday afternoon matinee and Saturday evening finale. Get them now and enjoy a night - or afternoon - of comedy and great music. Have you seen Elvis? I hope you've been noticing the ads running over the last couple weeks for the "Memories of Elvis" concert coming to the BARC Auditorium Friday night. The Elvis tribute concert featuring Chris Olson of White Bear Lake begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Elvis has been making surprise appearances in businesses around Windom. A couple of weeks ago, Elvis was spotted at Hy-Vee shopping for bananas. In Sunday's issue of The Shopper, River City Eatery owner Mari Harries spotted The King of Rock 'N Roll eating one of her delicious meals at her restaurant. And, if you check out the entertainment guide on page 12, you'll find Elvis already making his way into BARC for Friday night's big concert. All the information you need to get a ticket is there. And I know if you buy a ticket and attend the show, Elvis and the BARC Auditorium staff will say, "Thank you! Thank you very much!" Virtual 5K? You may remember that this past summer, friends, family and classmates of Jeff and Bridget (Fiala) Oltmans, graduates of Windom Area High School, held a Cystic Fibrosis (CF) fund-raiser golf tournament for their daughter Olivia, who is battling CF. Now, you can help out the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation again by participating in a Cystic Fibrosis Virtual 5K. Annisa Lightner, a daughter-in-law of Dave and Sylvia Lightner of Windom, is helping host the CF Virtual 5K. And the unique thing about the virtual event is that you can be anywhere, register online and do the walk/run/jog yourself. So, what is the CF Virtual 5K, you ask? Participants create their own course - make it most advantageious to you - and run or walk the route wherever they live. The process is easy. Register online at www.racemonkey.com, during November and you will be mailed a CF 5K shirt. Run or walk your route any time from now through Dec. 9. After completing your 5K, snap a picture with you in your shirt and email it, with your time, to firstname.lastname@example.org. After everyone's results are in, there will be a story, listing race times and featuring photos at gophersports.com. Everyone and anyone may participate and you're encouraged to bring your friends, family and even pets along. There are prizes, too. Because this is a virtual race prizes will be awarded for various place-finishers with all the numbers correlating to CF. There is a cost of $25 to participate with all proceeds going directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help research and find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. If you need more information, e-mail: Liz Amici at email@example.com; or Anissa Lightner at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would simply like to make a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, please send checks to: Anissa Lightner, 225 Bierman Field Athletic Building, 516 15th Avenue S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55455 Checks can be made out to University of Minnesota or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
