Beware of thin ice
Every year, we see stories about fishermen venturing onto the ice a little too early and pay for this mistake with their life.
It occurred about two weeks ago on Upper Red Lake. The bodies of a 29-year-old male and 30-year-old female were found after their ATV broke through the ice. At the time, reports were that ice thickness in that particular lake varied from just a few inches to 10 inches.
Of course, those conditions can be found in a number of area lakes as well. In fact, that varied ice thickness is one of the biggest factors in most ice-related tragedies.
