As the region sees growth, who takes on daycare needs? Currently, we have three licensed daycares in Mt. Lake. As of July, Rodney and I will be closing Caterpillar Clubhouse Daycare. This career has been so rewarding; more than we expected, watching little ones grow from their first step to their first day at school. That is what brings me to writing this letter. We currently have growth in our town and county with local companies expanding and even new business starting. That growth brings additional jobs, which is a great sign for our local economy. However, we do not have available daycare. There will be only two daycares in Mt. Lake with no or few openings available. The need for infants and toddlers are at a critical stage for our working families who have had to turn down full-time employment due to no daycare available for their work schedules. Yes, some families have taken turns with their work shifts. However, that still does not meet the demand of licensed daycares. Mt. Lake could have four more licensed daycare without a problem, meeting the needs of babies and toddlers. I have had many calls from parents who have an opportunity to work, but have no daycare for their youngest child or children. And, if they do find daycare, it is in another town, opposite to their workplace. Anyone having an interest to start a career as a daycare provider, please call the county for information to become a license daycare provider. We would be happy to talk to anyone with an interest of running a home daycare. If you have the room and would like to be a stay-at-home parent it's a great opportunity. - Beth Smith Mt. Lake
