Hats off to all of the community's efforts It is great to see what continues to happen in Windom with all the efforts that have been made to save and restore the State Theater. All of this is being done with funds from folks, not the government. I joined the effort years ago to save the old high school. Thank the Lord wisdom prevailed and you see the success of what is going on there with BARC! I also got to see this summer improvements at the baseball field and what the Windom Baseball Association has done! Wow! This field is better than some minor league parks. Trust me! I am thankful that my family was able to donate a little money - wish it could be more - to the BARC and ball field in memory of my dad, Wally, and my uncle, Joe Moede. This brings me to the fire hall and community safety. I also have donated money in the past to the fire department in memory of my dad who for years served as assistant fire chief and secretary. It was also in memory of my grandpa, Chris Moede. He joined the department in 1912. If funds can be raised for the old high school to serve the public, the State Theater and the ball field, cannot the same be done for the fire hall? This economy stinks for most of us and we cannot afford a tax increase. And it seems the City of Windom has the problem all local governments are having - where to get the funds to support this and that? Why not start a community fund drive to build or remodel the fire hall? Get the city, townships and former residents involved for the love of our Windom, Minn. Windom has the best fire department around. Let us put forth a fund drive. I will donate $100. I know that is small but that is what I can give at this time. I served on the Osceola, Ind., Fire Department for a few years when I lived there, before moving for a radio job. The trucks we had 25 years ago do not compare to what is being used today. I was in a fire hall the other day in Edgewood, N.M. and wow! It seems to me one fire truck today equals two of yesteryear. Windom is a town that has so much going for it and I know that through prayer and seeking guidance from our Lord the answer will be given. - Dewey Moede Albuquerque, N.M.
