RRC 00-28-00-07 = 35
EE 06-00-06-12 = 24

The Red Rock Central football team made its nine-man debut in impressive fashion Thursday, knocking off one of the area's premier programs.

The Falcons scored 28 points in the second quarter and coasted to a 35-24 victory over Edgerton-Ellsworth at Edgerton. The game marked the first home-field loss for the Dutchmen since Oct. 11, 2013, when the Dutchmen fell 48-12 to Mt. Lake Area.

EE got on the board first, but the Falcons answered with four touchdowns in the second quarter. The Falcon defense forced three first-half turnovers, turning all three into points.

RRC tied the game at 6-6 early in the second when quarterback Garrett Marsh hooked up with receiver Brady Rasmussen for a 25-yard touchdown. The Dutchmen fumbled on their first play after the ensuing kickoff and the Falcons went for the home run right away, scoring on a 25-yard pass from Marsh to Rasmussen for a 14-6 lead.

After an interception by Rasmussen, the Falcons went to the ground, with Sam Hansen scoring on a 30-yard run. Then, after another interception, RRC cashed in with a 25-yard strike from Marsh to Rasmussen for a 28-6 halftime lead.

RRC scored its final points early in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run from Hansen, giving the Falcons a 35-12 lead at the time. The Dutchmen tacked on a pair of late touchdowns.

Hansen finished the game with 211 yards rushing on 28 carries.

MLA 08-08-06-06 = 28
MACCRAY 00-00-00-00 = 00

The Mt. Lake Area football team opened the 2017 season in strong fashion Thursday, rumbling to a 28-0 victory over MACCRAY in a battle of the Wolverines at Maynard.

MLA churned out 397 yards on the ground on 61 carries in the game and racked up 442 yards of total offense.

Senior fullback Kris Menken did much of the heavy lifting for the Wolverines, rushing 26 times for 199 yards and a touchdown. His 31-yard touchdown run halfway through the first quarter gave MLA its first points of the season.

MLA added a 1-yard sneak by quarterback Abraham Stoesz in the second quarter to take a 16-0 lead.

Jeff Wright added a 5-yard touchdown run early in the third and A.J. Vongsy capped the scoring with a 71-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Vongsy rushed for 70 yards on four carries. Stoesz added 39 yards on eight carries in the win.

Stoesz completed 3-of-12 passes for 45 yards. Drake Harder had two receptions for 40 yards.

Fulda 00-08-06-00 = 14
WWG 14-16-28-00 = 58

Fulda had no answer for Westbrook-Walnut Grove's passing attack Thursday as the Chargers flew past the Raiders 58-14 in the season-opening game at Westbrook.

WWG quarterback Anthony Ross passed for four touchdowns, three going to Andrew Quade. Ross finished the game 25-for-37 passing for 299 yards.

WWG got on the board on its second drive of the season, capped with a 5-yard Kyle Kuehl run.

After forcing a Raider punt, WWG stretched its lead to 14-0 when Anthony Ross hit younger brother Nathan Ross across the middle for a 20-yard touchdown strike, giving WWG a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

The Chargers added a 1-yard touchdown run from Quade early in the second quarter, then scored on a 14-yard pass from Ross to Quade in the closing minutes.

Fulda scored right before halftime on a 62-yard run from quarterback Levi Spittle, cutting WWG's halftime lead to 30-8. Spittle then tacked on a 66-yard score on the first play of the third quarter, making the score 30-14.

It was all Chargers after that, as WWG scored 28 unanswered points in the quarter. Ross hit Quade for a 41-yard touchdown strike. Kuehl added a 15-yard run for a 44-14 lead.

Quade scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 22-yard pass from Ross, giving WWG a 50-14 lead. Then, Kuehl capped the Charger scoring late in the quarter with a 50-yard interception return.

Quade had 10 receptions for 173 yards and added 70 yards rushing. Kuehl rushed for 120 yards.
