MLA sweeps Red Rock titles
Red Rock Conference Meet It was a great day to be a Wolverine Thursday in Slayton, as Mt. Lake Area swept the championships at the Red Rock Conference Meet.
MLA's boys won the title with 176½ points. Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central finished fifth with 64 points.
MLA's girls finished with 155 points for the title. WWG/RRC was eighth with 39 points.
MLA's boys were led by Jose Gonzalez, who took first in the 800 (2:10.14) and first in the long jump (19-5½). Slade Harder was first in the 3,200 (10:41.63). Cody Klassen took first in the 300 hurdles (42.89) and was second in the 110 hurdles (16.44) and fourth in the high jump (5-6).
MLA's boys also dominated the relays, winning all four relay events: the 4x100 (47.13), 4x200 (1:37.94), 4x400 (3:40.59) and 4x800 (9:18.49).
Zach Dickens added a runner-up time in the 100 (12.06) with Reynaldo Capetillo third (12.07). Capetillo took fourth in the 200 (24.64). Caleb Bargen was third in the high jump (5-6) and fourth in the 400 (54.36). Hunter Quiring took third in the pole vault (10-0). Josh Fast was fourth in the discus (118-2) and Hamlet Tanyavong took fourth in the triple jump (37-1).
For the Wolverine girls, Lydia Hildebrandt placed first in the 200 (28.05) and third in the pole vault (7-0). Brianna Soutthivong won the 400 (63.13). Hannah Stoesz won the shot put (33-1) and Mikayla Falk won the pole vault (7-0).
MLA added a win in the 4x200 (1:53.78) and was second in the 4x400 (4:25.49) and third in the 4x800 (11:07.68).
Whitney Kassen was second in the 800 (2:30.01) and third in the 1,600 (5:52.22). Carly Paulson was second in the 100 hurdles (17.85) with Emily Jahnke fourth (19.01). Brooke Sunderman was second in the 300 hurdles (54.51) with Bailey Swanson fourth (55.96). Stacey Harder took fourth in the 3,200 (13:23.14). Jahnke was fourth in the long jump (13-2½).
WWG/RRC's boys were led by Levi Bunting's win the 110 hurdles (16.36). Bunting was also second in the 200 (24.29). Derek Christians took first in the pole vault (11-0). WWG/RRC was second in the 4x400 relay (3:48.48).
WWG/RRC's girls were led by Melanie Kedl, who won the high jump (4-8) and was fourth in the 400 (64.56). Alexa Byers took fifth in the 100 hurdles (19.31).

SWC Meet The Windom Eagle boys took sixth and the girls finished seventh at the final Southwest Conference track meet, held at the Windom Area High School track complex.
The Eagle boys finished with 58 points. Luverne edged out Marshall for the meet title with 155 points.
The Eagle girls finished with 37 points. Marshall scored 183-1/3 points to claim the title.
Individually, the Eagle boys were led by Victor Ogeka, who finished first in the triple jump (43-1), fourth in the long jump (18-10) and anchored the runner-up 4x100 relay team (45.65).
Tyler Morgan added a runner-up finish in the discus (128-2), took third in the shot put (44-8¾) and sixth in the 100 (12.03).
Brown Ogeka placed fourth in the triple jump (38-7) and fifth in the long jump (18-4½).
For the girls, Amy Muller claimed the lone Eagle win, taking first in the pole vault with a career-best jump of 9-0.
Christianna Green added a third-place finish in the 3,200 (12:18.83). Porsha Porath was fourth in the triple jump (29-7) and sixth in the long jump (14-0). Rachel Sorensen took fourth in the high jump (4-6) and Gabby Jensen was fourth in the discus (96-4).
