Eagles hold off Cardinals
Falcons, Wolverines pick up wins

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove used a three-run second inning to grab the lead and made it stick Tuesday, claiming a 4-1 win over Southwestern United at Westbrook.

Taylor Bunting scattered four hits, walked two and struck out 10 in the complete-game victory for the Falcons.

Cole Pankonin led the Falcons at the plate with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Mitchell Jarmer added a pair of doubles and Matt Otto knocked in a pair of runs.

Mt. Lake Area jumped to an early lead and pitcher Andrew Hirsch shut down the Murray County Central lineup Tuesday, giving the Wolverines a 10-4 victory over the Rebels at Slayton.

MLA plated five runs in the top of the second inning to grab the lead, then added a run in the third, two in the fourth and two in the seventh.

Nathan Adrian and Levi Kass each had two hits in the win. Eric Wenner had a triple and an RBI while Carter Kirk and Austin Watkins each doubled in a run.

Hirsch scattered six hits in the complete-game win.

The Windom Eagle baseball team picked up its third Southwest Conference win of the season Tuesday afternoon, holding off Redwood Valley 4-2 at Island Park.

The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the sixth for the win.

Sam Huska drove in a run with a first-inning groundout. Windom took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by Joe Wieneke.

In the fourth, Andrew Larson hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Devin Nielsen. Then in the sixth, Bryton Syverson hit a one-out triple and scored on a groundout by Jack Mellstrom.

Larson had two of the Eagles' eight hits in the win.

Mellstrom worked the first 5-2/3 innings on the mound to earn the win, allowing five hits and two walks while fanning five. Huska worked the final 1-1/3 innings to earn a save.
