RRC 20-17 = 37 Wabasso 23-32 = 55 A dominant second half performance by Wabasso's defense allowed the top-seeded Rabbits to pull away for a 55-37 victory over Red Rock Central in the Section 3A South semifinals at Windom Tuesday.
The Falcons led at several points in the first half before Wabasso eventually took a three-point lead into the break. But in the second half, Wabasso contested Falcon shots and forced turnovers, converting those turnovers into fast-break baskets.
Wabasso will face Southwest Minnesota Christian Friday for the sub-section championship in a game played at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
Windom 23-21 = 44 MCW 28-31 = 59 Martin County West used a strong second half to build a 20-point lead and came away with a 59-44 victory over the Windom Eagles in the Section 3AA South semifinals Tuesday at St. James.
The Eagles kept things close much of the first half, but MCW pulled away in the final minutes of the half to take a five-point lead into the locker room.
The Mavericks then caught fire from the field in the second half, using a 13-3 run to build the lead to 15 points. Windom was able to cut the deficit to 10, but MCW then went on a scoring binge, stretching the lead to 21 points in the closing minutes before a trio of Eagle baskets late cut the final deficit to 15.
Rachel Sorensen finished the game with 15 points for the Eagles. Kelsey Hanefeld added seven and Jasmine Carlson finished with six.
