Girls hold off Trojans
Windom Area 2-1-1 = 4 Worthington 0-1-0 = 1 The Windom Area girls hockey team picked up its third win of the season Tuesday night, making the most of its scoring chances in a 4-1 victory at Worthington.
The Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead after one period and led 3-1 late in the second before having to kill off a string of penalties late in the second and early in the third periods. The Eagles skated off a pair of five-on-three power plays for the Trojans to preserve the victory.
Addison Beaty got the Eagles on the board halfway through the first period. Alexis Jellema-Baerg added a one-timer for a goal late in the period for a 2-0 lead.
Beaty netted her second goal of the game 3:18 into the second period, then Jellema-Baerg scored her second goal of the game six minutes into the third.
Windom outshot Worthington 29-25 in the game, with many of the Trojans' shots coming during their two extended power plays. Goalie Emily Steen finished the night with 24 saves.

Windom Area 2-3-2 = 7 Worthington 1-0-0 = 1 The Windom Area boys hockey team got out of the blocks quickly Tuesday night, scoring less than a minute into the game and rolling to a 7-1 win at Worthington.
The Eagles scored 56 seconds into the game when a shot from the point by Dylan Pigman caromed off a pair of skates and found the back of the net, giving the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead.
Zach Bartosh added his first of two goals late in the period, but Worthington scored with 26 seconds left in the first to cut the Eagle lead to 2-1.
But the second period was dominated by the Eagles, who outshot Worthington 22-3 for the period. Devin Nielsen scored a pair of goals in the period while Alex Leopold added a goal, giving the Eagles a 5-1 advantage.
It stayed that way until late in the game, when the Eagles netted a pair of goals in the final minutes. Bartosh made the score 6-1, then Brady Haberman scored his first career goal for the final score of the game.
Windom outshot Worthington 50-25 for the game. Eagle goalie Nate Monson finished with 24 saves.
