Eagle girls surge past Wolverines

Windom 31-33 = 64
MLA 27-21 = 48

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team turned up the defense in the second half Saturday night, pulling away over the final 18 minutes to claim a 64-48 win over Mt. Lake Area in Mt. Lake.

Windom led by four at halftime, but limited MLA's offensive chances in the second half by slowing down MLA's transition game and cutting through the Wolverines' pressing defense.

MLA struggled from the field in the second half, and Windom sealed the victory by going 22-of-32 from the free throw line for the game.

Four players scored in double figures for Windom, led by Jasmine Carlson with 17 points. Kelsey Hanefeld and Rachel Sorensen scored 11 points each and Leigh Hanefeld chipped in 10.

Signey Stoesz paced MLA with 12 points. Stacey Harder added eight points in the loss.
