Mustangs hold off Eagles in Classic finals
Wolverines top Panthers, improve to 9-0
Ellsworth 18-36 = 54
MLA 31-29 = 60

Mt. Lake Area ran its record to 9-0 Friday, holding off a late rally to defeat Ellsworth 60-54 in the finals of the MLA Holiday Tournament in Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines built a 13-point halftime lead and stretched the lead as large as 19 points in the second half. But a flurry of three-pointers by the Panthers trimmed the deficit to 11 before Ellsworth hit a bucket and a three-pointer in the closing seconds.

Andrew Hempeck paced MLA with 19 points. Carter Kirk finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Mounds View 45-29 = 74
Windom 32-31 = 63

A slow start proved too much for the Windom Eagle boys basketball team to overcome Saturday night, as the Eagles fell 74-63 to Class 4A Mounds View in the finals of the Windom Holiday Classic.

Mounds View started the game with a 10-0 run and opened a 15-point lead in the first half. The Eagles battled back in the second half with stellar defensive play and hot shooting, cutting the deficit to six points before Mounds View sealed the win from the free throw line.

Bryce Bever led the Eagles with 18 points in the loss. Victor Ogeka came off the bench to score 11 points and provided a spark on the defensive end. Sam Huska and Jacob Gotto each scored 10.

New Ulm 26-32 = 58
Windom 29-40 = 69

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team opened the Windom Holiday Classic Friday afternoon with a 69-58 victory over New Ulm.

Windom led by three at the break, but caught fire from the outside in the second half, hitting 10 three-pointers in the game.

Bryce Bever led the Eagles with 15 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Sam Huska added 14 points. Kyle Antes scored 13 and Jeff Pfeffer finished with 10.
