MCC 26-12 = 38 Windom 24-24 = 48 The Windom Eagle girls basketball team used a 12-0 run early in the second half to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish, winning its season-opening game 48-38 over Murray County Central Monday at Windom.
The Eagles started the game with an 8-0 run, only to see MCC hit four first-half three-pointers to take a 26-24 lead into halftime.
But the Eagles came out strong on the defensive end in the second half, holding the Rebels without a three-pointer and creating numerous turnovers with tight defense. That defense eventually turned to offense as Windom went on its early 12-0 run to regain the lead for good.
The Eagles struggled from the field in the game, shooting 25%.
Kelsey Hanefeld led the Eagles with 14 points. Rachel Sorensen scored 13 while Jasmine Carlson and Madison Maras added eight points each.
