Nesseth racks up three saves in a week

Windom native Mike Nesseth's recent stretch of shut-down pitching continued this week for the Reading (Pa.) Fighting Phils, the Phillies' Class AA affiliate.

Nesseth recorded three saves in the past week after an injury to a teammate left the closer's role vacant for Reading. That included shutting the door on a potential rally in a 5-4 win Thursday at Trenton, N.J.

In Thursday's win, Nesseth came on in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runners in scoring position and halted the Trenton rally. He then retired Trenton in order in the ninth, recording a pair of strikeouts.

Nesseth has not allowed an earned run in over a month, which has seen his earned run average drop to 1.65 since being called up to Reading. In his last 10 outings, opposing hitters are batting below .100.
