Windom 27-20 = 47
Worthington 25-28 = 57

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team saw its season come to a close Tuesday night with a 57-47 loss to Worthington in the Section 3AA South playoffs at St. James.

The Eagles had pulled to within three points at 50-47 with just over a minute to play, but Worthington hit 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute while the Eagles were unable to convert.

After a sluggish start, the Eagles caught fire late in the first half, finishing the half with a 10-0 run.

But the Eagle offense sputtered with turnovers and missed shots to start the second half, scoring only two points in the first seven minutes of the half. Windom trailed by two with nine minutes to go when Worthington hit a trio of three-pointers, building a 10-point lead.

Windom tried to battle back. Kelsey Hanefeld and Gina Hauge hit buckets and Rachel Sorensen drained a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to three with a minute to play. But Ana Boever hit 5-of-6 from the line in the final minute and Paige Gravenhof added two more, sealing the win for Worthington.

Sorensen led the Eagles with 15 points. Hauge added 13 and Hanefeld finished with 11 in the loss.
