SWC tops Wolverines, takes sole possession of first

MLA 38-31 = 69
SWC 38-46 = 84

A game of runs ended with Southwest Minnesota Christian making the last run of the game Friday. That allowed the Eagles to claim an 84-69 win over Mt. Lake Area in Edgerton, taking over sole possession of first place in the Red Rock Conference.

SWC held double-digit leads in both halves, only to see the Wolverines roar back. MLA tied the game at 38-38 at halftime, then was able to trim the SWC lead down to five points at 65-60 with six minutes to play.

But SWC closed the game with a 19-9 run, pulling away over the final three minutes of the game from the free throw line.

Carter Kirk led the Wolverines with 27 points. Josiah Stoesz added 15 points and Andrew Hempeck finished with 10.

RRC 35-35 = 70
RCW 22-13 = 35

Red Rock Central spread the ball around with 29 assists Saturday, rolling to a 70-35 victory over Renville County West at Renville.

The Falcons shot a sizzling 61% from the field and outscored the Jaguars 35-13 in the second half to run away with the win.

Henry Rogotzke led the way for the Falcons with 28 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Jeff DeCock added 10 points and 10 assists. Thomas Blomgren and Sam Halter scored nine points each.

MCC 26-34 = 60
WWG 31-41 = 72

Westbrook-Walnut Grove went wild from the outside Friday night, running away late for a 72-60 victory over Murray County Central at Westbrook.

The Chargers gained a double-digit lead in the second half before MCC whittled the lead down to four points late. But a key three-pointer by Taylor Lindaman and late free throws helped the Chargers seal the victory.

Lindaman was red hot from the outside, hitting seven three-pointers and finishing with 29 points in the win. Alex Knutson added 14 points and Reed Bakken scored 13 in the win.
