Cobras 7th, Bobcats 2nd at JCC Tourney

JCC Tourney
Windom-Mt. Lake finished seventh while Wabasso-Red Rock Central placed second in the team standings at the Jackson County Central Tournament Saturday in Jackson.

The Cobras had a champion and a runner-up to finish with 94 team points. WRRC had one champion and two runners-up and finished with 192½ points. Host JCC won the tournament, finishing with six individual champions and 195 team points.

For the Cobras, sophomore Wyatt Stevens captured the 113-pound championship. Stevens recorded a first-round decision, won a pair of falls and won a 4-3 decision over Clayton Hartle of Fulda-Murray County Central to win the title.

Junior Vince Johnson added a runner-up finish at 182 pounds. Johnson won a pair of falls before taking a 7-3 loss to Porter Secrist of Wabasha-Kellogg in the finals.

Jared Willaby placed third at 132 pounds, winning a fall and a decision. He lost a 5-3 decision in the semifinals, but pinned Steven Zellmer of Sioux City in the third-place match.

Ben Matter added a fourth-place finish at 152. Andrew Larson took sixth at 160.

For WRRC, Alex Schroepfer recorded three pins, then won a 6-3 decision over Colin Fisher to win the championship at heavyweight.

Mitchell Fulton took second at 106, recording a pair of falls and a decision before being pinned by Skylar Heronimus of Adrian in the finals.

Tanner Rohlik won a pair of falls and a decision before losing a 1-0 decision to Luke Norland of JCC to take second at 152.

Dominic Ourada finished third at 145. Mitchell Schroepfer finished third at 170. Brady Bierl placed third at 195. Spencer Jenniges took fourth at 120. Josh Altermatt was fourth at 126. Blake Altermatt was fourth at 160. T.J. Fulton placed fifth at 138. Jordan Schroepfer placed fifth at 182. Brakken Bierl was sixth at 113.
