Early week rain puts brakes on Highway 60 project

(Today's updates: 10 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.)

Soggy conditions between Windom and Mt. Lake have brought the Highway 60 four-lane expansion project to a halt, according to Bob Williams, MnDOT project engineer out of the Windom office.

Earth moving equipment, trucks and bull dozers were seen working at the construction site well into Saturday and during the first part of the week. But there has been virtually no action on the site after Tuesday night's heavy rain.

"They've been doing a lot of earth work and when you get more than three inches of rain, it's a factor," Williams said. "It's possible they won't be able to do much the rest of the week."

After a lengthy winter, Williams said the project was roughly a week ahead of schedule as spring construction work got underway.
