10/5/2017 5:30:00 AM Commissioners cancel public meeting regarding recycling rates
At Tuesday's regular meeting, the Cottonwood County commissioners reversed a previous decision to hold a public meeting regarding increased countywide recycling assessments.
The board had previously thought that the public meeting was a requirement. Commissoiners had scheduled a rare evening meeting in order to give residents a better opportunity to attend the hearing. However, commissioners have since received word from County Attorney Nick Anderson that the public hearing is not required.
After considerable discussion, commissioners determined that a public informational meeting is not necessary. Instead, the board has instructed staff to put together an information sheet explaining the reason for the increase and how the funds are used.
Essentially, the funds help cover the cost of providing single sort recycling in Cottonwood County.
