Smokey Bear pays visit to youngsters at Windom Library

A group of young readers were treated to a special visit from the forest's furry friend, Smokey Bear, during story time at the Windom Public Library recently.

Smokey, who was traveling with Forest Ranger Tom Romaine of the New Ulm DNR office, was on hand for the reading time which featured a story on the fire fighting bear. After Nancy Sajban read the story, Ranger Tom answered questions and shared information about forest fires with the dozen children and their parents.

Each of the children also received a Smokey Bear book and bookmark for attending then got the privilege to shake Smokey's paws. A few of the youngsters were excited for the opportunity.

Smokey is visiting public libraries throughout the state spreading his famous phrase: "Only you can prevent wild fires."
