Author to speak at Sons of Norway meeting Thursday

Candace Simar, a writer and poet with a passion for Minnesota history, will be the guest speaker at the local Sons of Norway Stavanger Lodge meeting Thursday at 7 p.m., at the Cottonwood County Historical Society, 812 4th Ave., in Windom.

Simar, who hails from Pequot Lakes and is a grandchild of Norwegian immigrants, authored the Abercrombie Trail, a series of historical novels which recount the story of Scandinavian immigrants in early Minnesota during the 1862 Sioux Uprising. The series includes Abercrombrie Trail in 2009, Pomme de Terre in 2010, Birdie in 2011 and Blooming Prairie in 2012.

Thursday's meeting is open to the public free of charge. Refreshments will be served after the program.
