Windom Police make arrest following Thursday manhunt

A search Thursday evening for a man who violated an order for protection ended today following a traffic stop north of Bergen.

A 39-year-old male from Heron Lake was arrested for three counts of terroristic threats and violation of an order for protection. The arrest was made following a traffic stop at 3 p.m. today, north of Bergen, by officers from the Cottonwood County Sheriff's office and Windom Police Department. Law enforcement were acting on a tip they received today.

Windom Police Chief Scott Peterson said the suspect was arrested without incident.

Peterson said the suspect is expected to make his first court appearance Monday in Cottonwood County District Court.

According to a press release from the Windom Police Department and information from Peterson, the manhunt began at about 4 p.m. Thursday when Windom Police were dispatched to the 800 block of 16th St. in reference to a possible violation of an order for protection.

Upon arrival, officers were able to determine that a male subject, who had allegedly violated the order, had fled the scene.

A subsequent search insued involving the K-9 Unit from the Worthington Police Department. The search began on the environmental center grounds across from Windom Area Middle High School, where the male was located in a swamp area. However, he eluded officers.

The search, which lasted several hours, moved to the Perkins Creek bridge area on River Road before it was called off due to darkness.

Despite rumors, Peterson said that no shots were fired, however, a taser was deployed during the search.
