costs in county's sewer snafu
Timing is everything - especially when it comes to rural Cottonwood County sewer lines.
The Cottonwood County Citizen has learned that any non-compliant sewer line that is more than 10 years old is not covered by the county's insurance carrier. And, on advice from the Association of Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust, the commissioners have decided not to pick up the cost.
Last month, commissioners met for more than two hours with representatives of the insurance trust regarding this matter.
The county has already seen one case in which a homeowner - who learned of the non-compliant system while selling his home - was left holding the bag. Consequently, the homeowner, Brian Keairnes of rural Jeffers was forced to take out an $18,000 loan to cover the septic cost.
