11/6/2013 8:40:00 AM Windom area gets winter preview
Royce Smith taste-tested the first snow of the season while his mom brushed and scraped snow and ice from the windshield of a neighbor's car.
Dustin Stevens of Windom shoveled the coating of snow from his driveway before heading off to work.
Two to three inches of snow fell on the Windom area with slightly larger amounts falling in the northern corner of Cottonwood County after a late fall snow blanketed Southwest Minnesota Tuesday evening.
Shovels -- not snowblowers -- were out Wednesday morning shoveling driveways and walkways following the first measureable snowfall of the season.
Windom and Cottonwood County were on the eastern edge of the swath of snow that made its way through the corner of the state. Just 70 miles to the west, Pipestone received the most snowfall anywhere at 10 inches, while Marshall received eight inches of the new white stuff.
Streets in Windom were snow and ice covered Wednesday morning, but most of this snow is expected to be gone by the weekend with the sun and clear skies already prevailing Monday morning.
