Evacuation drill planned at Windom school today

There will be all sorts of commotion with police and rescue personnel at Windom Area Middle High School starting about 1 p.m. today.

However, do not be alarmed. It is only a drill.

Because school is scheduled to close early today, there will be no students in the building at the time of the drill. Winfair school students will be released at 12:30 p.m. and Windom Area Middle High School students are released at 12:45 p.m.

The mock evacuation drill will start no sooner than 1 p.m. and it should end around 4 p.m. Since the drill will run almost entirely on the east side of the school, it will not impact the students involved in the Southwest Chorale Festival practice in the afternoon.

The actual Chorale Festival concert is slated for later in the evening, after the mock evacuation drill is finished.

Assisting with the drill will be Windom's Ambulance Department, Fire Department, Police Department and Cottonwood County Sheriff's Department.
