New retention pond to help Windom's Red Leaf Court area
A new pond, completed less than two weeks ago, could play a major role in flood protection for Windom's Red Leaf Court area.
In the event of a major rain event, such as the one that flooded Red Leaf Court in 2010, this new retention pond could be downright heroic.
According to Dave Bucklin of the Cottonwood Soil and Water Conservation District, the key to this $23,000 project is a new dike that crosses a valley a half-mile northwest of Red Leaf Court. The dike blocks a creek that runs from the hills north of town, creating a new retention pond.
