Street project could face penalty for late completion

Time is running out on Windom's 2013 street reconstruction project and a $2,000-per-day late fee looms in the background.

City Administrator Steve Nasby told the Citizen Monday he is doubtful that the contractor, Kuechle Underground of Kimball, will meet today's deadline. A few rain days and some city-requested construction additions will likely push back the deadline.

However, at a recent city council meeting, frustrated council members pointed out that this has been an excellent summer for construction.

Still uncompleted, as of this morning were: Drake Ave., 20th St., plus backfilling (behind curbs) on multiple streets. Plans are to finish paving Drake Ave., followed by 20th St. The 20th St. project is currently scheduled to begin on Oct. 15, Nasby said.
