6/19/2013 9:34:00 AM Star Tribune writer to speak at Sons of Norway meeting
Kim Ode, Minneapolis Star Tribune writer, will be the guest speaker at the local Sons of Norway Stavanger Lodge meeting Thursday at the Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom.
The meeting begins with a 6 p.m. potluck supper, followed by Ode's presentation at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend this free program. Bring a dish to share if you plan to participate in the potluck, or non-members may attend just the program at 7 p.m.
Ode covered the visit of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway to Minnesota in October 2011. Their eight-day tour across Minnesota and Iowa marked the first visit of the King to the Midwest since 1995.
During their stay in the Twin Cities, Ode was granted a rare interview with King Harald in his suite at the St. Paul Hotel. She also will share about the royal couple's stops during their stay in Minnesota as well as their unveiling of an exhibit at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The exhibit celebrated the 100th anniversary of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen reaching the South Pole.
In addition, Ode will share about her visit to Oslo for several days prior to the royal visit to write about the generations of ties between Minnesota and Norway.
