Hail strikes some crops in Cottonwood County

Just as crops were starting to round into form, a hail storm rolled through the area Monday night.

The storm arrived without warning overnight, at about 2:30 or 3 a.m. There were reports of hail stones as large as golf balls.

Jesse Fast, owner of Fast Seeds of rural Windom scouted several fields on Tuesday and said some crops appear to be in rough shape. He added that the destruction ranged as far north as County Road 10 and as far south as Mt. Lake.

"Some fields look like they'll have to replant, the soybeans especially," Fast said. "There was some pretty heavy stand reduction on soybeans. Some fields are up to an 80% loss."
