Three champs crowned on opening weekend of Pirate Classic

Three championships were decided Saturday and Sunday of the annual Pirate Classic Baseball Tournament in Windom.

The top teams from each age level were: 10U (ages 10 and under), Springfield; 13U, Spirit Lake; and 14U, Willmar. Windom teams placed second in both the 10U and 13U tournaments.

Each of the three tournaments featured six teams. The second week of the Pirate Classic Baseball Tournament gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday.

A total of 34 teams are slated to play in Windom over the course of two weeks, 16 of which will play this coming weekend. Saturday's action features a six-team 14U (age 14 and under) tournament at Island Park and the Windom Recreation Area and also a four-team 11U tournament at Island Park.

On Sunday, Island Park will host a six-team 12U tournament.

Windom is expected to have teams in all of these tournaments.
