Heron Lake Bioenergy decision expected in May

A decision on the future of Heron Lake Bioenergy is still a couple of weeks away, according to Bob Ferguson, general manager of the plant.

Last week, company officials met with stockholders in a private gathering to discuss the situation. A second identical meeting is scheduled for tonight at the Heron Lake Community Center.

Ferguson stressed that these meetings are for stockholders only. The plan is to provide members with as much information as possible and, at the same time, answer any questions. Ferguson said the board also gives the group a list of options available to Heron Lake Bioenergy.

Regardless of what happens, Ferguson stressed that he has no doubt the plant will be in full operation a year from now. The plant is currently operating well and producing ethanol on a daily basis, he added.

A decision on what lies ahead is expected to occur within the next couple of weeks, Ferguson said. For much more on this story, see this week's Cottonwood County Citizen and Citizen eEdition.
