4/10/2013 9:21:00 AM RSVP announces new service for seniors
Spring has sprung and with it yard work that needs to be done and windows to be washed.
Unfortunately, for some of the area's older residents, such tasks are physically difficult or financially challenging to do themselves.
RSVP of Cottonwood County is ready to help them out.
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is answering the need with its new "Senior Chore Services." RSVP is partnering with local youth and other groups to help those seniors who need it most - and RSVP will provide all equipment needed for yard clean-ups.
There is a cost for RSVP Senior Chore Services, but it is based on a Cost Share Policy. Low-income residents not eligible for cost share are asked to make a voluntary contribution. All contributions are used to maintain this program for future service.
RSVP is planning two Senior Chore Services dates this spring, but to receive the services, you must sign up in advance.
RSVP will provide: Yard clean-up Raking Flower bed cleaning Lower-level outside window washing Home safety checklist
RSVP volunteers can do other chores, such as replace a light bulb or smoke alarm battery, however, residents must provide the light bulbs or batteries.
Senior Chore Services is designed to prevent falls that can lead to assisted living or nursing home placement and help older adults live safely and independently in their own homes.
For more information on RSVP Senior Chore Services, or to schedule an appointment for services, call Cottonwood County RSVP at 831-1803.
Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis with priority given to rural, isolated, low-income, frail/disabled and persons of minority status who are over the age of 60.
