Mijah Murden captured first place in prose to lead Windom to a second-place finish among small schools at the St. Peter Invitational Speech Tournament Saturday.
Windom finished with 50 points behind Mankato Loyola, which racked up 84 points. Minnesota Valley Lutheran was third with 20 points.
In addition to Murden's gold medal, Windom also received second-place finishes from Eli Yackel-Juleen and Emily Axford in dramatic duo and Kaitie Bartelt in orginal oratory.
Blake Warner picked up the team's only fourth-place finish in the great speeches category.
Bringing home fifth-place finishes were Hanna Low in orginial oratory and Elsa Mendoza in prose, while Aaron Axford was sixth in creative expression, Isaac Steele was seventh in informative speaking and Ryan Helmoski finished eighth in discussion.
Steele was double-entered in Saturday's tournament and also brought home a blue ribbon in humorous. Erin Thiessen also earned a blue ribbon in poetry as did Amy Elston and Marissa Cartwright in dramatic duo.
In the novice division, Sydney Erickson and Sami Bartelt took first place in dramatic duo and Sammy Bernal was fifth in prose.
Windom travels to Marshall Saturday for the Southwest Minnesota State University Invitational.
