Skating season at Arena wraps up with Ice Show

Winter draws to a close at the Windom Arena this weekend when the Windom Figure Skating Club presents its 36th annual Ice Show, "Fire and Ice."

The club will give two performances, Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Advance tickets for the show are $6 for adults and $4 for students, or a dollar more for each at the door.

Tickets are available from any figure skater or at Bank Midwest in Windom or by calling 822-6497.

"We have a red-and-blue thing going on with our theme, so I think you're going to see a lot of red-and-blue, even in the programs," says Judy Green, first-year chairperson of the Windom Figure Skating Club.

About 100 youth, ages 3 to 18, will perform 29 routines during the two-hour show. Skaters hail from Windom and a number of surrounding communities and include all levels of abilites, from first-year Snowplow Sam skaters to veteran Freestyle skaters.

Even though the show's theme is "Fire and Ice," don't expect to see pyrotechnics mixing with the skating.

"It's the feelings that are invoked with love songs and there are love songs in the program," Green says of the theme. "Most of the acts are affiliated with love songs. But there are little boys and little girls in the show, so we didn't want to push the 'love' theme too much. 'Fire and Ice' keeps it ambiguous."

Audiences attending the show also will see a variety of acts, from small to large group routines as well as solos, duets and trios.

While there are no trios this year, there are two solos , one by the club's lone senior, Hali Tasler, and the other by junior Angela Patterson. Two solo-duets will feature Teresa Deutchman and Chanah Brandt in one and Amanda Muller and Kaleigh Fritz in the other.

For more on the show and a feature story on the club's lone senior, Hali Tasler, see the March 6 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen on newsstands today.
