Riverfest leaders express major concerns about volunteer shortage
The future of Windom's Riverfest celebration is on the line.
That, in a nutshell, is how Riverfest volunteers framed a recent message to the community. Riverfest needs leadership and volunteers - soon.
"The Riverfest committee is at a critical crossroads as this is the last year our co-chairs will be chairing the Riverfest committee," the letter stated. "The future of Riverfest could be uncertain if there is no interest in finding our next co-chairs."
One of those co-chairs, Denise Houston, told the Citizen Monday that other area communities are facing the same problem of finding enough volunteers for their celebrations.
Chamber Executive Damon Weinandt said both Jackson and Lakefield have faced the volunteer shortage. Both celebrations ultimately survived under revised formats.
