Hacker, Johnson crowned Winterfest queen, king
Windom Area High School seniors Leah Hacker and Jacob Johnson were crowned queen and king at Saturday evening's Winterfest coronation at the WAMHS Gold Gym.
Johnson was unveiled as the WAHS winter homecoming king after all six candidates each opened a small box, simultaneously, and Johnson's box contained blue shred while the other five had gold shred.
The blue shred played on the Winterfest Coronation theme, "True Blue."
Hacker was crowned queen when the white rose she dipped into a bowl of water turned blue. Although her crowning was a bit delayed. Each of the six queen candidates dipped their flowers into the water and none of the flowers turned the water blue. However, when Hacker returned a second time, the water finally turned blue signifying she had been crowned queen.
Other king candidates included Trenton Bever, Danny Kneeland, Andy Pfeffer, Nicholas Wolter and Michael Rivera.
Other queen candidates were Sami Petersen, Megan Will, Amy
Elston, Johanna Low and Rachel Witt.
Coronation was one of the final two events of Winterfest 2013. Following coronation, the Winterfest dance was held in the WAHS commons.
