4/1/2013 9:39:00 AM Community Blood Bank to hold blood drive today (Monday)
Community Blood Bank and Windom Area Hospital are teaming up to host a blood drive today (Monday) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Windom Area Hospital.
The blood drive, which comes during National Blood Donor month, benefits the local hospital's blood supply.
It also comes at a time when local hospitals are seeing an increased need for blood.
"Usage has been 15% higher than last year at the same time placing a heavy strain on the blood supply to the point that we have been placed into a critical need for blood," states Rita Nelson, director of Donor Recruitment for Community Blood Bank.
"Community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of patients in our hospitals we serve. We encourage residents of the Windom area to give the gift of life at this blood drive."
Blood is needed daily for use in surgeries, cancer treatment, traumas and burn treatment.
Donating blood requires 20 to 30 minutes of time.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID when you come to donate.
It is recommended that donors eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood.
