10/4/2012 11:22:00 AM Burning ban includes Windom city limits
Officials from the City of Windom are stressing that the current Cottonwood County burning ban includes the Windom city limits.
The ban is in place because of significantly dry conditions. Fire Chief Dan Ortmann says all of the elements are in place for a significant and severe fire for the area. He is concerned about the high winds, which could cause a fire to spread quickly.
For Windom residents, the burning ban means that absolutely no recreational fires or leaf burning is allowed within the city limits.
Windom authorities have reported a change in how burning bans are handled locally. In the future any time Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington announces a burning ban for the county, the City of Windom automatically will be placed under a burning ban as well.
