10/10/2013 2:19:00 PM Council explores hospital area as possible future fire hall site
At Tuesday's Windom city council budget meeting, the council spent several minutes discussing possible sites for a new fire hall.
The topic was raised by Mayor Corey Maricle while the council was meeting with Windom Fire Chief Dan Ortmann about the fire department budget. Maricle told the council he has been analyzing possible locations for the fire hall and was wondering if it should be built near Windom Area Hospital.
Maricle pointed out that the city recently purchased the former Guardian Inn Extended Stay motel (previously known as "the Johnson Motel") which is just south of the hospital. The move was made to help allow the hospital more room for expansion. Maricle said he has not yet spoken with hospital officials about this fire hall option, but noted that it would serve the fire department well thanks to its easy access and central location.
