Miss Photogenic voting for Miss Riverfest, Junior Miss Riverfest begins today

The 2013 Miss Riverfest Pageant is less than three weeks away and audience participation begins today with the start of online voting for Miss Photogenic.

This is the 11th year residents from the Windom area as well as across the country will be able to vote for Miss Photogenic. Voting can be done online from your home, or by hand at the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce office at 303 9th St. in Windom.

Four contestants who have completed their junior year at Windom Area High School are vying for this year's title. They are Emily Axford, the daughter of Jim and Rachel Axford; Mikaila Bolin, the daughter of Jim and Simoine Bolin; Megan Theesfeld, the daughter of Rod and Mary Theesfeld; and LaLissa Wiens, the daughter of Gary and Susan Wiens.

However, there is a new addition to this year's pageant.
While no junior boys signed up for the pageant committee's efforts to add a Mr. Riverfest contest, the committee opted instead to add a Junior Miss Riverfest pageant.

Five seventh-graders have signed up to participate and will be involved in all of the same competitions as the Miss Riverfest Pageant except for an on-stage question.
Consequently, area residents also will be able to vote for Miss Junior Photogenic this year.

The five Junior Miss Riverfest candidates are: Kayla Chester, the daughter of Kelly Chester; Londyn Espenson, the daughter of Michael and DeeDee Espenson; Miranda Rummens, the daughter of Tammy Gisemba and Obed Gisemba; Elizabeth Weber, the daughter of Troy and Heather Weber; and Mia Hockel, the daughter of Mark and Karla Hockel.

To vote online, go to Citizen Online at www.windomnews.com - which is again hosting this year's voting - then click on "Vote for Miss Photogenic Contest" at the top of the page. That will take you to a page with photos of all four Miss Riverfest contestants and all five Junior Miss Riverfest contestants.

Simply click on the photo of the Miss Riverfest and the photo of the Junior Miss Riverfest contestants you believe are most photogenic.

After an e-mail box pops up with the contestant's name in the subject line, simply click "send" and you have voted.

The photos were taken by Rod Byam of Picture This Photography.

You can only vote once per e-mail address per candidate. Any additional e-mails for the same candidate from the same address will be discarded.

Through online voting, friends and family of the nine contestants (four Miss Riverfest and five Junior Miss Riverfest), who are scattered across the country, can play a part in the pageant even though they will be unable to attend.

Online voting for the pageant ends at 10 p.m., Friday, May 31. Voting at the Windom Chamber Office ends at 5 p.m., May 31.

The winners of the Miss Photogenic contests will be announced during the Miss Riverfest Pageant on Monday, June 3, at the BARC Auditorium in Windom. The pageant begins at 7 p.m.

Second-year co-chairs of the pageant are Jessica Riordan and Mandie Borer of Windom Women of Today.
