Members of the Windom chapter of the National Honor Society pooled dollars from a couple of its major fund-raisers during the school year and put it toward children - specifically children riding in ambulances.
Thursday morning, NHS members presented local EMT Jim Axford with a box of new small toys that will be placed in its ambulances. The toys are given to children who are transported to the hospital or have longer rides for transfers to Sioux Falls or the Twin Cities.
Axford said that the toys help keep the child's mind on the toy rather than the ambulance ride, which can sometimes be traumatic.
Students purchased $250 worth of toys from Shopko Hometown recently. The toys include stuffed animals, yo-yos, small balls and Barbies.
The money was raised from Pi Day (3-14) sales at the school and its ink cartridge recycling program.
Presenting the toys to EMT Axford are NHS members Emily Axford and Jamie Symens.
Other members of the Windom chapter of NHS are Hanna Low, Hannah Kloss, Miki Bolin, Megan Theesfeld, Abby Resch, Nicholas Wolter, Andy Pfeffer, Ryan Helmoski. Back: Hali Tasler, Rachel Witt, Kelsey Hanefeld, Chelsey Fast, Nick Raverty, Blake Warner, Max Sykora and Jacob Johnson.
