Windom Robotics Team ousted in Division playoffs

The Windom Eagles Robotics Team lost its best-of-three quarterfinal match in the Arts Division playoffs, ending their appearance at the 2013 VEX Robotics World Championships.

Windom's alliance lost in its first quarterfinal match 220-30, then, letting its two other alliance teams compete in the second match, lost that one 240-20. That ends Windom's competition in the World Championships.

The Windom Eagles Robotics Team finished as the No. 4 seed in the Arts Division and selected The Calvary from Haverford High School in Haverford, Pa., and Aperture Science from Thetford, Vt., to form its alliance in the elimination round.

As the fourth-seed, The Windom Eagles' three-team alliance will faced the fifth seed, Rmaggedon from Ontario, Canada. That team selected the RoboSavages from British Columbia, Canada and 4Chainz from Monmouth Junction, N.J., as its alliance partners.

The Arts Division Championship Round Robin matches run from 5 to 5:45 p.m., followed by the finals as well as closing ceremony and awards are 6 to 8 p.m.

The Windom Eagles Robotics Team finished the qualification rounds at 9-1 after losing their final match 71-31.

The team had won its first match today 183-143, all three of its first-round matches on Thursday and all five of its matches on Friday.

They also won Friday's matches by scores of 120-68, 86-17, 115-90, 105-85 and 96-80 victories in its five matches Friday. Windom won all three of its bouts on Thursday by scores of 66-43, 175-74 and 200-51.

Windom remains in fourth place at 9-1-0 with only two qualification matches left in the Arts Division.

Team members are seniors Nicholas Wolter and Ryan Helmoski, junior Isaac Steele and freshmen Ethan Clerc, Jackson Oltmans and Nathan White. The team is coached by Bob and Sandy Ruby.
